Amazon Prime Video's August 2026 lineup includes Reacher Season 4, a Maia Reficco romance, and a Colson Whitehead adaptation

The platform is stacking its August catalog with a Jack Reacher return, a Mallorca-set romantic drama based on an Anna Todd novel, and 'Nickel Boys' — the film adaptation of Whitehead's Pulitzer-winning book.

Amazon Prime Video has published its August 2026 content slate, and the platform is not playing it safe.

The headline theatrical arrival is 'The Last Sunrise' ('Sunrise: El último amanecer'), a romantic drama based on Anna Todd's 2025 novel of the same name. Maia Reficco plays Oriah 'Ry' Pera, a young woman living with a chronic illness who falls for a man named Julián during a summer trip to Mallorca with her mother. Eva Longoria co-stars as Isolde Pera. The film was directed by Carlson Young and written by Anna Klassen. It drops August 26.

Also arriving on the platform is 'Nickel Boys', an adaptation of Colson Whitehead's novel based on real events at an abusive Florida reform school in the 1960s. The film follows two young Black men, Elwood and Turner, who are unjustly sent to the institution. The source material is grounded in documented history, which the production leans into.

On the series side, the most-anticipated return is 'Reacher' Season 4, premiering August 12. Alan Ritchson is back as Jack Reacher, this time adapting Gone Tomorrow — the thirteenth book in Lee Child's series, published under the title 'Mañana no estás' in Spanish-language markets.

The full slate also includes catalog titles suited for weekend marathons across comedy and action genres, though Amazon has not detailed every title in its promotional materials.

Here's the thing: Amazon is threading a needle this month — a prestige literary adaptation, a crowd-pleasing franchise return, and a romance built around an IP with a proven fanbase. That is a calculated spread, not a dump. The platform is clearly trying to hold subscribers through a month when competitors are also pushing major titles. Whether 'Nickel Boys' gets the awards-season push it likely deserves, or gets buried between Reacher episodes and Mallorca sunsets, is the real question August will answer.
